Privacy is a hugely important topic in the world of Responsible Technology because it lies at the heart of so many digital harms. In this chapter, I’ll share some models that we help you navigate the complex world of privacy.
Technology can itself play a role in protecting privacy. Over the past few years, I’ve been excited to learn about the world of PETs (Privacy Enhancing Technologies). Examples include Differential Privacy, Homomorphic Encryption, and Federated Learning. We’ll explore the PETs landscape through real-world applications by the US Census Bureau, Google and Microsoft.
