In our first project, our objective is to create generative art by manipulating textures. Through the application of random noise, we will be able to make art with a distinctive, cloud-like watercolor effect. Additionally, we will provide detailed instructions on how to customize the TouchDesigner program to match any of our specific requirements. Lastly, we will learn how to export our artistic creations as both images and videos.
Hello and welcome to our Generative Art course! Let's discover what we have in store on the first chapter.
Why would we use TouchDesigner over other options that are out there, such as Adobe After Effects or Processing?
How do we actually work with TouchDesigner? Well, we press Tab a lot and drag a lot!
In our opinion, the default layout in TouchDesigner isn't always the best for seeing what's going on. In this video, Rik shows how to make a split view that he'll be using throughout the course.
Displacement is the act of shifting a texture, such as an image, in particular directions that are based on another texture, such as a noise pattern. Here we talk about how to do this in TouchDesigner.
What options are there when it comes to distorting our source image? Turns out... there are a lot of them!
By default, our noise texture doesn't ever change. We can make it animated using TouchDesigner's built-in running clock.
When making custom artwork, you have custom control over your inputs and outputs. Here we want to make sure our displacement inputs match in size!
What's better than a displacement effect? Two of them! Here we pass our distorted image into yet another displacement effect.
One powerful part of generative art is the concept of looping and feedback. Here we add a feedback loop to our project so that we're constantly altering the output over and over again.
With more fine-grained controls, we can change our artwork to give completely different outcomes by tweaking parameters.
What is our art without a frame? In this video, we will cover how to take your distorted image and give it a nice border.
What is the best way to export your artwork once you've made it? There are several options...
